Description

Ponleur Kumar (PK) was localized formerly from Wathnakpheap (WP)/ Pestalozzi Children’s Village Foundation, and Switzerland –based international NGO (SKIP). PK is currently awarded the contract Cambodia HARVEST program by USAID-funded project/FINTRAC to implement RICE PRODUCTION   project based in Battambang  and in Pursat province.

 

The program is aims to increase food availability and access by bolstering productivity of fisheries, forestry, agriculture, strengthen value chains, create private-sector led rural employment. PK is seeking the qualified candidates to fill the position of Rice Production Technician.

Position :

Rice Production Technician.

Job Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of HARVEST Agronomist Senior, Rice Production Technicians will collaborate with different HARVEST specialists to implement Cambodia HARVEST program   that includes implement the field-based technical assistance, trainings, and other activities as   required and/or other support to poor households in the areas of rice production and nutrition education.
  • Providing regular weekly technical assistance visits to client partners, clients and lead clients
  • Working with HARVEST senior agronomists and agricultural technicians to introduce        low-tech, cost-effective technologies and good agricultural practices to improve the productivity of rice production.

Providing   recommendations and monitoring progress.

  • Entering brief updates of client visits, trainings and other activities into the

M&E form on a weekly basis, and working with the M&E team to otherwise

contribute to the monitoring and evaluation process as required.

  • As a regular part of their work, technicians will assist in the identification of appropriate clients and beneficiaries for demonstration plot based on HARVEST criteria and recommend them to the HARVEST senior agronomists for program assistance.
  • Organize and conduct different training, workshops and/or special events related to support for rice demonstration plot, low-input fish ponds and/or nutrition education, including the participation of other people and institutions in communities. The range of these activities will be agreed in collaboration with the PK Field Technicians and other HARVEST specialists.
  • Provide data and materials for program reports, as required.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by Management, to support the FS/N initiative and/or, in conjunction with other HARVEST specialists, other HARVEST activities in the rice, horticulture and fish value chains and forestry sector.

 

Job Requirements

  • Age between 25 -45 year olds.
  • University degree in agronomy, agriculture, rural development or related field study  – social sciences, agriculture, fisheries, forestry etc.
  • Demonstrated  experience  in rice production at least two years
  • At least 2 years of  work experience with NGOs as well as (preferably) the government sector in development work, especially in rural community development work and people empowerment work
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Sensitive to local culture and people
  • Ability to live, work and appreciate poor people culture and commit to their development
  • Good at English as an advantage
  • Computer literacy (Ms. Word & Excel )
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively in target villages and stay overnights in village   provinces by motorbike.
  • Experience in community development work  with NGO
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Work well in a  team environment and
  • Ability to work under pressure and  be flexible
